Blue Winter starts with Blue Winter Morning: a melodic jazzy piece in a slow 5 beat bar with swinging 8th notes. The main melody is written in G major. The use of easy 7-9 chords gives every intermediate orchestra the "jazzy" feel.
Blue Winter Evening is a swinging and faster piece, in which basses and cello's play a pizzicato rhythmical ostinato. Violins and Violas play homorhythmical in the first theme, afterwards a canonic second theme developes and divides the orchestra in two groups.
