Dance from Polesskaya Suite, 1972
The Polesskaya Suite was written for symphonic orchestra in 1964. It consists of 5 movements: 1. Dudari, 2. Ballad, 3. Galop, 4. Evening landscape, 5. Dance. The transcription for violin of the last movement (Dance) was made by the composer in 1972. Polesskaya refers to the transnational region ‘Polesia’ which consists of part of southern Belarus, part of northern Ukraine, part of Poland and part of Russia. The fiery ‘Dance’ with a lyrical but also virtuosic middle section, is certainly an enjoyable repertoire piece for violin.
