In duet and trio, Dirk Lievens explores older forms. In Allegro Classico (duet) he seeks the late romantic language of the then-growing violin schools, in Swinging Passacaglia (trio) he mixes swing with a passacaglia ostinato bas that is varied as the piece progresses. In the process, he makes sure that each part has to alternate in melody, rhythm or harmony. The pieces are playable for violins and violas and/or mixed. The edition provides these scores.
