Balkanesque by Karel Vercruysse (excl. 6% BTW)
The piece starts with a slow Jiddish Song, in which the different groups of the orchestra take turns in playing the melancholic melody. First violins and celli play up to fourth position, using the most basic fingerings. The long bows and cantabile legato playing of the first part make a nice contrast with the rhythmical Bulgarian Dance of the second part. This dance in 7/8 pattern the ensemble plays mostly homo-rhythmic and give support to each other. As the piece goes on, the energy rises up to a fortissimo ending! A great concertpiece for the better intermediate group, combining melodious and rhythmical playing!
